Every year, the megatins bring down the prices of a lot of cards printed during the previous year. However, now that Konami has embraced Common Charity, they also introduce a ton of cards to this format for the very first time. Here are the most important new arrivals to be aware of!
Advanced players might be thrilled to finally pick up their playset of , upgrade their in rarity, or even brandish brand-new tools such as … But Common Charity champions are much more excited about previously illegal cards in the format printed at the lowest rarity for the first time.
Insects Enter Common Charity!
The Beetroopers make for an incredible addition to the format. Every single Beetrooper, except for , is legal now, and in a format where unaffected monsters are king, seems like a worthy enough payoff to actually build this deck.
But Beetroopers isn't the only deck to benefit from these prints. Inzektor gets access to , which opens up many plays. plus used to be just a rank four or five play, but now you can use the Centipede you summon from Dragonfly to add a second Dragonfly, link summon Armor Horn, and get a second Dragonfly. With your second Centipede, you can add , then turn Centipede and Armor Horn into , which allows you to equip to your Dragonfly. Equip Weevil to Dragonfly, use Hornet to pop Weevil, and you get three summons off of that. This might not be enough to make Inzektors a tier one strategy, but it goes from an unplayable deck to something that warrants some merit.
Add to that the fact that is in the format, and we have enough playable Insects to actually consider it as a tier one contender.
Plants Get a Big Boost!
will be a niche card, but it does give plant decks a payoff and a reason to play and .
So far, the only plant deck in the format has been Predaplant, but it's quite possible that the deck might want to incorporate a copy of to summon if you drew Princess. Two monster negates is really big in a format where is usually a good enough endboard.
New Fabled Support!
Fabled has always been very close to playable in Common Charity. It was the only deck that could summon relatively consistently. However, what it offered in explosivity, it lacked in its ability to rebuild a broken board and win from behind. While the new cards don't seem like they will give it any recoverability, they do make the deck even more explosive. It could even become a blind second deck trying to OTK after summoning a bunch of large synchro monsters. Regardless of how impactful the addition is, Fabled will definitely become a better deck than it previously was.
A New Side-Deck Staple?
is probably going to become a side deck staple. The ability to easily deal with extra deck monsters without targeting or destroying them is amazing. Just read , , and , and you will understand why Psychic Eraser Laser is such a big deal for us. This is essentially our .
It's also notable how Laser deals with a through both and , or a that has become level eleven or higher. Whether giving your opponent 3,000-ish life points or a Kaiju is better, only time will tell. But having more options to go second that are playable outside OTK strategies surely doesn't hurt the format.
Wind Synchro!
Considering how easy summoning level nine synchros is in this format, is an amazing inclusion. Tenyi has been summoning for a long time with and the token. While Wolfrayet isn't strictly better, Tenyi players will probably eschew the second copy of Archethys for a Wolfrayet.
Wolfrayet is also a good payoff for decks that lock themselves into wind synchros. Might this be the perfect excuse to dig through your Legendary Duelists: Synchro Storm bulk for some common copies of Speedroid cards??
Speaking of wind synchros, and are the last two main-deck cards that Windwitch was lacking. While the deck doesn't have any of its synchro monsters available, it does have a good amount of cool synchros to summon, and I wouldn't be surprised to see the archetype's remaining three cards printed as commons in an upcoming OTS pack.
Honorable Mentions
While those are the biggest additions to the format, there are some other cards that deserve a small mention. The addition of means Suship is now at full power, whatever that means.
is a new toy for Megalith to explore. Having a searchable countertrap in its arsenal is probably very big.
While and aren't broken by any means, they enable a resource loop that allows you to recycle a lot. Whether that's enough for a Tour Guide deck to emerge, we will see, but it's certainly interesting enough to investigate.
