Daily Deck Tech Hunt: Monogreen Updates

Every workday while the set is new, Insight is taking a quick look at another deck featuring cards from Innistrad: Midnight Hunt. Monogreen was already one of the strongest decks left in the post-rotation Standard pool. It got some new tools too and immediately posted strong finishes on Magic Online …

Monogreen is not your everyday aggro/midrange deck, as nearly all cards have some sort of synergy. , the only one mana ramp in current Standard, is an immeasurable asset. It makes the deck so much better by just being able to accelerate things into play. You can even couple it with another one-drop, be it or , to get an additional creature on the board on turn two. I'm not that impressed with the Sprout, as it's only strong when transformed, with which could helps. I think Swarm Shambler is better, but still only see them primarily as ways of enabling/profiting off the Sentinel.

The next most logical play is either or . These may be the only viable green two-drops, but this deck couldn't care less. Both serve as awesome mana sinks, so even if you draw them later on, they're everything but bad.

Three mana is the curve's zenith, and for good reason. Both and make a glorious return as creatures that can be so much more. They crew by themselves, trigger the Pack Leader, or just hit face very efficiently.

Speaking of hitting face, is astonishing at that with temporary 4 power, again also enough to crew the Vehicle on its own. That's not to mention that the Chariot can alternatively copy the Clue token to draw more cards. Finally, is a great tool for when you're flooded and just need bodies, maybe even as a comeback after a sweeper. It's also super flexible, great both at three, five, and at six mana.

As for the Chariot—it's the nuts, giving you two small creatures and a big one with a very powerful effect. Almost makes me wonder how there is no here, even though the card isn't very fast. The fact that a few copies of the planeswalker could easily fit just goes to show that Monogreen is a brutally versatile deck with an equally versatile sideboard. Here are two lists that did well, exemplifying the large range of viable options for you to pick and choose from according to your preferences.

If you get to face the mirror often, or just like two drops, perhaps the following version will be more to your liking. If the goal is simply to go as big as possible as fast as possible, both and help immensely, but on the flip side there aren't any new three-drops here. I personally couldn't get over that, but what matters is that the deck's pilot could.
