Every workday while the set is new, Insight takes a quick look at a deck featuring the latest additions from Phyrexia: All Will Be One. Portal to Phyrexia has been a great target to reanimate for a while. Now we got another powerful payoff, which may have just made Reanimator viable in Standard!
Reanimator decks are usually seeing play in larger formats, where you can find most of the enablers and the payoffs, which are also frequently way more powerful than in the Standard environment. However, we may have got the perfect alignment of stars as there are crucial elements available to make such a strategy work in a rotating format.
Our discard outlets are aplenty. and allow you to ditch a card, but they also help enact a bit of a grindy value game. and though are straight-up the best impersonations in the Standard card pool. There is also a miser's copy of . In total, we have fifteen ways to place our big payoff in the graveyard, and most of them help find the key reanimation spell too.
Speaking of which, now we need to reanimate the card that has been discarded. is a five-mana spell that can return any permanent from the grave. Importantly, the permanent can but does not have to be a creature. Consequently, works too and will decimate the opponent's side of the board and then keep returning our stuff. Speaking of other stuff, there is a new Phyrexia: All Will Be One addition that certainly qualifies. is a superbly beefy threat that dominates combat thanks to its numerous keywords and draws up to seven cards with its reveal trigger. There is also , an all-around solid threat to get back.
Not reanimating anything as quickly as its cousins in other formats means the deck needs some interaction pieces not to fall behind too much in the early game. is removal on a stick, doubles up as an of sorts, and we also have actual factual Abrade.
