WOE is upon us! Every workday while the set is new, Insight takes a quick look at a deck featuring the latest additions from Wilds of Eldraine. It may be time to revisit Pioneer's Monored Prowess and to take the strategy on an Adventure. A couple of fresh cards can make all the difference!
The roots of red-based Prowess decks in Pioneer go to the format's very beginning. However, although and remain a match made in heaven, they typically show up in less explosive, more traditional aggro decks nowadays. But a new draw option might save the day!
looks similar to in that you get to replace your hand with some new cards and also get a big creature at a discount. But where Bedlam Reveler had to do everything in one go and never expedited itself, Stoke Genius can actually accelerate the Hearth Elemental! Don't feel bad about discarding the odd instant or sorcery that doesn't fit into the current spot, for example removal in matchups where it matters little. This will draw you other cards and speed up both its own creature side as well as future copies.
Unfortunately, perished Adventure cards reducing the Elemental's cost hardly matter here. What matters more is that, by removing Bedlam Reveler, you get as your companion.
We may even put , the old backbone of Pioneer Prowess, to rest. With less need to chain spell into spell one by one, we can instead try out . It gives a creature trample permanently, while also buffing it. Leaving behind the Monster Role arguably makes it almost strictly better than , which also used to see play at the time of Pioneer's inception.
There are heaps of old Pioneer Prowess cards we need to say goodbye to, but is a weird exception. It's quite likely still a good way to keep the deck extremely fast and its mana curve as low as possible. The rest of the deck resembles Monored Aggro, with plenty material that's simply too good to pass, especially . It does not have synergy with , but let's give it a break—it goes well with just about everything else!
