A Rare Opportunity

As great as Taylor's lecture was, a video that goes into detail on every rarity that's ever existed would likely end up four hours long. Here we'd like to highlight some of the rare pieces of cardboard that were just barely mentioned in all of the classroom chaos. Since Taylor couldn't get to them himself, consider this your homework assignment!
If you caught the moment when Johnny mentioned cards with names printed in unique colors, that's indeed what we're here for. The Hobby League promos got the parallel treatment and were discussed at length in the video, but there was another series of early Yu-Gi-Oh! events that introduced an even more exclusive rarity! Upper Deck originally ran the Duelist League in toy and book stores like Toys "R" Us, Barnes & Noble, and Books-A-Million. In 2010 Konami took over and gave these events a bit of a restructuring, and this included new promo cards …
Sometimes referred to as "Colored Rares" or otherwise just Duelist League Promos, these cards are exactly like normal rare cards with the only foiling on the name. In this case though, you got one of these four vibrant colors instead of the usual silver lettering.
Players could earn these promos by winning "Duelist Cards" from other duelists—essentially just a point-tracking system. Leagues would last for two hours and start each participant with three Duelist Cards. Each win would gain you a card from your opponent, and once you had five, you would earn yourself a promo! Players who had yet to earn one at the end of the two hours would also get to select a promo as their prize, starting with whoever had the most points. So no one had to go home empty handed, but if you could duel your way to the top quickly, you were free to pick your favorite! The best part was that each card was available in all four of the colors.
Although they aren't the flashiest in comparison to some of the rarities of today (looking at you, Extra Secret Parallel Rare), the Duelist League Promos still make for a very cool collectors item. When you slap your Green
