The Create-a-Card Project
In 2020 Konami decided to let the community create a new TCG card, or at least determine its theme, its card type (see bracket below), and finally the type of set where it should debut. To this end Konami conducted a series of polls on Twitter, starting on August 4.
However, just one week after the start, with two rounds of voting already completed, Konami was forced to acknowledge foul play. Apparently people had been spending money to rig the results with hundreds of fake accounts. Konami abandoned the plan to have people vote on Twitter and instead moved the voting to a separate website. Notably the second of the tampered-with polls had seen the Inzektor theme lose to Valkyrie. Luckily those results were discarded.
Because when the voting picked up again on August 18, Inzektor didn't just beat Valkyrie handily. It also secured victory over Sylvan in September and over Dinomist in early October and earned a place in the finals against Photon. The final poll on the card's theme that ran from October 6 to October 12 yielded the greatest voter turnout, with almost 52,000 votes registered—and Inzektor won again!
The question whether the card should be a monster or a non-monster card ended in a landslide for the latter option. Next, spell won over trap at an even larger margin, securing roughly 85% of the vote. The final poll that ran from November 6 to November 13 was the only one that asked people to choose between three options: 23% wanted to see the card in a core booster release, 33% opted for a gift set, but 44% decided that it would debut in a 60-card set.
