We take a quick look at a deck featuring the latest additions from March of the Machine every workday throughout the rest of April. While convoke is a big part of the Limited environment, nobody expected it to break through to Modern. However, Ancient Imperiosaur can run the tables even in this nonrotating format!
This shell has two main game plans. The first revolves around and . Their enter-the-battlefield triggers buff the entire army and grant haste. This lines up very well with cheap token makers such as and . You can create a bunch of creatures, play a Bushwhacker, and bash in with everything, often all on the same turn and often cutting the opponent's starting life total almost in half.
There are more tools to ensure that you've got a lot of creatures around. First in line are eight zero-drops in the form of and , which coincidentally also make great targets for Gleeful Demolition and sacrifices for Kuldotha Rebirth. On top of that, combined with those zeros can make a humble squadron of Squirrels. is a great storm enabler as well, as it's essentially free, mana wise. A strong curve might include some number of zeros into Rebirth/Demolition on turn one and some number of Emissary plus one Reckless Bushwhacker on turn two, buffing the entire team.
March of the Machine has given this deck a new toy to boost its potential. Everything mentioned so far has already been legal for some time, but here comes ! With a plethora of creatures around, it's easy to deploy this gigantic, board-dominating threat. The Dinosaur can theoretically enter as early as turn two as a 20/20, threatening to one-shot kill the opponent. Importantly, the color cost can be paid with creatures as well, so Burning-Tree Emissary and Squirrel tokens can help cast it essentially for free. From the opponent's perspective, getting rid of a 20/20 trampler on turn two through its ward ability is no easy ask.
This might be the w(h)ack(i)est, most explosive deck Modern has seen in quite some time. Time to join the imperium of the Imperiosaur!
