Modern Deck of the Week: Turn Two Combo Kill from Capenna

You may have heard of the new two-card combo fresh from the Streets of New Capenna, involving Vivien on the Hunt and an Accomplice. But did you know that the community already found a way to win with it on turn two? It's time to take a look at the latest, fastest combo concoction!


In case you missed last week's chatter, here's what you can do when you control and any three-mana creature:

  • +2 to get and blink Vivien.
  • +2 to get to get the Felidar back and blink Vivien.
  • +2 to get .
  • Copy Karmic Guide to get the Felidar back and blink Kiki-Jiki.
  • Copy Felidar Guardian and blink Kiki-Jiki. Repeat a few million times. Attack.

To start the chain, any three-drop will do, but accomplishes a nice speed boost. It also allows the combo to work off just red mana. All you need is this one creature in play, the planeswalker in hand, as well as three different combo pieces in your library. With the help of any mana accelerant, the whole thing can be over in three turns.

With a little more help it's even possible to win on turn two! The following list can the Accomplice into the graveyard on turn one and it onto the battlefield on turn two. Voilà.

As is typical, the deck makes up for its scary top speed in consistency. It can find the Accomplice in several ways but essentially relies on mulligans to supply the planeswalker. It also features a bunch of subplots in case the main plan doesn't pan out. The deck can go into , for example, or into .

All in all, the combo eats up about fourteen slots—if you still want it operational when you draw the wrong card. That's a quarter of a regular-sized deck. For that reason alone, it's unlikely to take over Modern. But a different build might at least get banned. Fingers crossed!
