The first big tournaments of the second Challenge season are in the books. Next to a bunch of Challenge Championship Qualifiers this also includes the new season's first Disney Lorcana Challenge in Bologna. Time to look ahead to the upcoming release of the tenth Lorcana set Whispers in the Well, and once again we have the honor to present one of the cards from the new set.
The rotation—the first four sets leaving Core Constructed—has properly reshuffled the game's deck landscape. Bologna in particular has shown us a healthy metagame at that. One can always argue about fun, but healthy it is! While Ruby had been the predominant ink all the way to the World Championship in June, now we see nothing of this dominance anymore. Once paired with Amethyst or Sapphire, most recently piloted by the World Champion himself, there's little left of its former power. The 1,864 decks that started into the first day in Bologna featured a mere 34 Ruby builds, just a single Ruby-Sapphire among them, and Emerald-Ruby even remained the sole ink combination not represented at all.
So it may be time for Ruby to pick up a bit of steam again. In light of this, let's move on to our preview card, onward to Olympus!
Next Stop, Olympus is an action that costs 2 ink to play and can also be put into the inkwell. As it's not a song, you can't exert a character to play it for free. However, if you have a character with 5 strength or more in play, the card costs 2 less and becomes free this way. Its effect readies a character, who then can't quest anymore this turn. When this character challenges another this turn, you gain 1 lore.
From Action to Interaction
The most obvious interaction clearly involves . And wow—with Maui this action can create a beautiful loop! It doesn't cost anything, since Maui has more than 5 strength. You play it and ready Maui. You gain 1 lore from Maui's "Wayfinding" ability as you've played an action. Then Maui challenges another character and gains you 1 lore from the action itself. With Maui's "Cheeeehoooo!" ability you return the action from your discard and start over. Of course the loop ends once Maui takes damage equal to his 5 willpower. But every iteration will cause solid damage and will bring you 2 lore closer to victory.
Adding Steel and results in a combination even more impressive. This way Maui doesn't just get "Resist +2" and can take a lot more damage, you also gain an additional 2 lore when the challenged character is banished. Or you have on your side, and Maui doesn't take any damage at all anymore.
You get another interesting interaction with . If you've played Mulan via shift, she gets +3 strength from her ability and ends up with 5. So once again Next Stop, Olympus costs nothing, and whether Mulan has quested for 2 lore or decimated the opponent's board with her "Triple Shot" before, there shouldn't be any opposition left after her second challenge at least.
On its own Next Stop, Olympus may not be able to bring Ruby back from its current low. But there are whispers coming from the depths here. The card appeals to my inner Combo Timmy in any case. Do you see further interactions with existing cards you're interested to explore? Then share them with us in the comments! Meanwhile, we can all be excited for the Whispers in the Well prerelease on November 7!

November!
