A Big Change

At the beginning of the year, there were fourteen active games on Cardmarket, and now we have 25. This massive update shows just how much the TCG community is growing. Indeed these are exciting times to be dealing with trading cards. Of course great opportunities always come with great challenges. The sheer number of properties entering the market required us to revisit how we approach new games. Over the past couple of years we have thus developed new processes for evaluation and implementation as well as new technological infrastructure to match.

One outcome of this project is that it's much easier for us to add games going forward. We know TCG fans don't like to wait for new releases, and we don't like to make you wait either. After all, many of us at Cardmarket, across all departments and levels, are avid collectors ourselves. (See, for example, this article.) This is no mere promise regarding some unspecified date in the future. You can see the immediate outcome of this project above. The future has already arrived.

Signed, Sealed, Delivered

Of course, we also know that no TCG fan can ever be fully happy until their game is available in full, including all of its singles. Whenever we do decide to support a game in full on Cardmarket, we are indeed proud to cover the whole catalog the game has to offer. You don't have to tell us that, for every card and product, there's someone out there who is happy to part with it and someone else happier to have it. Connecting these people, for a net gain in overall happiness, is what we do.

Where we can extend this service to singles and where we have to stick to sealed product is not an easy decision we take lightly. There's an analogy almost too obvious to draw but too apt to put on the bottom of the deck: Trading card gameplay itself constantly asks players to make tough choices too, based on limited resources and imperfect information, and to reevaluate choices over time. Please understand that the same applies here and that we only announce updates when we are sure that any promise we make is a promise we keep.

In the meantime, we hope that anyone who may not be fully happy with the sealed-only solution can be partly happy about it. There's a metaphorical boat to sit in together here, as well as a glass best viewed optimistically. Your glass might not be full, and it's clear, as glass tends to be, that you're thirsty for more. For now, however, we are excited to offer so many additional people a seat at our table. Welcome and thank you for joining the Cardmarket community!
